Package Pump Stations

A package pump station is a sophisticated mechanical device designed to move liquids to a higher level. It consists of several key components, each with a specific function. Below, our experts in water and foul pump stations will walk you through these components and their roles in the system.

  • A Wet Well or Chamber

This is the part that first collects sewage, waste and drainage.
  • Submersible Pumps

These pumps are installed within the wet well to pump the waste toward the sewer.
  • Valves

Valves, for instance, non-return valves, are what prevent a backflow of drainage. On the other hand, gate valves are used for isolation then maintenance.
  • The Rising Main

This is what our pump maintenance company calls the discharge pipe, which carries the pumped waste away from the pump station.
  • Float Switches

These switches are fitted directly to the pump, automatically turning it on or off as water levels rise and fall.
  • A Guide Rail System

This is an optional system, allowing pumps to be fitted to a lifting chain, which then slides up and down a guide rail.
  • Level Sensors

These sensors use float switches and conductivity probes, as well as ultrasound or sometimes radar, to monitor fluid levels and operate the pump automatically.
  • Flow Meters

These meters monitor, measure and record the incoming flow rate and the pressure to assess the efficiency of the pump station.

Essentially, a packaged pump station is used when gravity is insufficient in some cases to provide adequate drainage of liquids. Waste is sent from where it is and into an underground storage chamber within the nearest sewer or liquid-carrying pipeline to move the waste away from where it was and to higher ground elsewhere.
